Finding Comfort in the Sacred Heart: A June Devotion

Finding Comfort in the Sacred Heart: A June Devotion

The month of June is dedicated to one of the most tender and powerful devotions in the Catholic faith: the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

If you’re not familiar with it, the Sacred Heart is a symbol of Christ’s boundless love for us—love that’s compassionate, merciful, and willing to suffer for our sake. It’s often depicted as a heart surrounded by thorns and radiating light, reminding us that Jesus not only sees our pain but enters into it with us.

Why June?

This devotion has its roots in the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the 17th century, when Jesus revealed His heart as a source of refuge and mercy. Over time, the Church designated June as the month to honor His Sacred Heart, inviting us to slow down, turn inward, and rest in the love of Christ.

Whether life feels chaotic, uncertain, or just too heavy to carry alone, the Sacred Heart reminds us that we are deeply loved—and never alone.

A Personal Note

As I write this, I’m preparing for surgery and feeling all the human emotions that come with that: anxiety, hope, and the need to surrender. And this month, more than ever, I’m leaning into the heart of Jesus.

There’s something deeply comforting about placing my fears—and my future—into His hands. I trust that He will carry me through recovery just as He has carried me through so many seasons before.

If you’re carrying something heavy this month, please know I’ll be offering up my discomfort and quiet moments of healing for you, too. We are truly united in prayer.

How to Live the Devotion

If you feel drawn to this devotion (or are just discovering it for the first time), here are a few simple ways to bring it into your daily life:

  • Pray the Litany of the Sacred Heart or whisper short phrases like “Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You” throughout the day.

  • Celebrate First Fridays by attending Mass or offering acts of reparation.

  • Display an image or symbol of the Sacred Heart in your home as a reminder of His love.

  • Offer small sacrifices (like inconveniences or aches) for someone in need.

  • Surround yourself with tangible reminders—in your home, your journal, or your daily rhythm.

Years ago, I asked my niece—just 16 at the time—to draw her interpretation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. What she created was both reverent and radiant, and I’ve been honored to incorporate her hand-drawn design into a few of my pieces: a tea towel, a T-shirt, and a waterproof sticker. It’s been so meaningful to share her faith-filled artwork with others who treasure this devotion.

A Heart That Welcomes Yours

This month, whatever you’re facing, I invite you to place it in the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He sees it all—your hopes, your hurts, your everyday worries—and welcomes them with love.

Thank you for being here, and for keeping me in your prayers. I’ll be back soon with more reflections, but until then, know I’m lifting you up too.

With love,
♡ Amy
