August: The Month of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

A Month to Rest in our Mother's Heart

The Church dedicates each month of the year to a particular devotion, and August belongs to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. While the Feast of the Immaculate Heart often falls in June (the day after the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus), the entire month of August invites us to linger with this devotion.

The Immaculate Heart is more than an image — it is the very core of Mary’s being: pure, sinless, and completely united to the will of God. Her heart beats with love for her Son and for us, His children. To honor her heart is to honor the virtues it represents: humility, obedience, compassion, perseverance, and maternal care.

The Symbolism of Mary’s Heart

In art, the Immaculate Heart is often depicted surrounded by roses, pierced with a sword, and aflame with love. Each element tells part of the story:

  • The roses represent purity and the beauty of her virtue.

  • The sword recalls Simeon’s prophecy that a sword would pierce her heart (Luke 2:35), symbolizing the sorrows she endured.

  • The flames signify her burning love for God and for all humanity.

To meditate on her heart is to remember that love and suffering often walk together — and that her response was always trust.

Living Marian Devotion: Fiat and Totus Tuus

Two of the most beautiful expressions of Mary’s faith are summed up in the mottos Fiat and Totus Tuus.

  • Fiat — Latin for “let it be done” — comes from Luke 1:38, Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel at the Annunciation. This single word captures the surrender and obedience that defined her life. Saying “Fiat” means trusting God’s plan even when the path is uncertain.

    • Keep “Fiat” close with our Fiat towel, Fiat sticker, or Fiat shirt — simple reminders to make that same daily “yes” in your own life

  • Totus Tuus — Latin for “totally yours” — was popularized by Pope St. John Paul II as his papal motto. It expresses total consecration to Jesus through Mary, a spirituality rooted in St. Louis de Montfort’s writings.

    • Carry “Totus Tuus” with you through our Totus Tuus towel, Totus Tuus sticker, or Totus Tuus shirt, so the words of surrender are never far from sight.

Other Beautiful Marian Devotions & Prayers

Hail Mary — The beloved prayer of the Church, given by the angel Gabriel and completed by the faithful through the centuries. It’s both a greeting and a plea for intercession.

Display your love for this prayer with our Hail Mary towel or Hail Mary sticker.

Immaculate Heart of Mary — A devotion centered on her pure, loving heart, untainted by sin and fully aligned with God’s will.

Keep her heart present with our Immaculate Heart towel, Immaculate Heart sticker, or Immaculate Heart shirt.

Auspice Maria — The monogram “AM” under a crown, meaning “Under the protection of Mary,” has been a Catholic symbol for centuries.

Surround yourself with this protection through our Auspice Maria towel, Auspice Maria sticker, or Auspice Maria shirt.

Divine Mercy — “Jesus, I Trust in You” — While not exclusively Marian, this prayer reflects Mary’s own trust in her Son. She lived those words perfectly.

Bring this trust into your space with our Divine Mercy towel or Divine Mercy sticker.

Our Lady of Fatima — “Pray! Pray very much” — The message Mary gave to the shepherd children in Fatima is as urgent now as it was in 1917.

Remember her plea with our Our Lady of Fatima towel, Our Lady of Fatima sticker, or Our Lady of Fatima shirt.

August’s Marian Feast Days

The Month of the Immaculate Heart includes several major Marian celebrations:

  • August 15 – The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary
We celebrate Mary being taken body and soul into heaven, a sign of hope for our own eternal destiny.

  • August 22 – The Queenship of Mary
We honor her as Queen of Heaven and Earth, a title flowing from her role as the Mother of Christ the King.

Both feasts remind us that her life was one long “yes” — a Fiat — crowned in glory and marked by her total belonging to God.

Bringing Devotion into Daily Life

Devotion to the Immaculate Heart doesn’t have to stay in prayer books or feast days — it can be woven into the ordinary rhythm of life. Simple reminders in your home or workspace can turn everyday moments into opportunities for reflection.

That’s the heart behind our Marian collection — towels, stickers, and apparel that help you pray without ceasing, remember Mary’s example, and draw closer to her Son. Whether it’s the gentle reminder of a towel draped over your oven door or a sticker on the laptop you open every morning, these little touches can make space for grace in the midst of busy days.

Let Mary’s “Yes” Inspire Yours

As we move through August, let’s keep our hearts near Mary’s. Her Immaculate Heart shows us how to love without fear, trust without hesitation, and serve without counting the cost.

May her “Fiat” become ours. May her “Totus Tuus” inspire us to give ourselves completely to God. And may the beauty of her heart lead us closer to the Heart of her Son.
