Love Like Mary. Serve Like Martha.

A Year of Healing and a Reminder That Jesus Loves Both.

Last year at this time I was in the hospital with a contained perforation from diverticulitis. Six days of IV antibiotics, tests, pain, and prayer. It was the start of a long, humbling, and faith-stretching year.

By the time July 29 arrived—the feast of Sts. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus—I was back home. But I wasn’t “better” at all. I was on a round-the-clock IV antibiotic regimen. My body was tired. My appetite was limited. I was in pain. And honestly? I didn’t know when or how it would end.

What I did know was this: Jesus was with me. And the Gospel story of Mary and Martha became more than a familiar passage—it became personal.

The Saints Who Kept Me Company

You probably know the moment well: Martha welcomes Jesus into her home and jumps into action, while Mary sits at His feet. Martha asks for help; Jesus lovingly reminds her:

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part.” (Luke 10:41–42)

But He doesn’t scold Martha. He simply redirects her heart.
He loved them both.

I thought of that often as I tried to balance rest and responsibility—letting go of control, leaning on others, and learning to pray in the silence.

A Design from the Heart

My “Love like Mary, Serve like Martha” design has been part of my shop for several years now—but this past year, it took on a deeper meaning for me personally. During a long season of waiting, healing, and surrender, I found myself coming back to the message behind it again and again. A reminder that we’re called to both—devotion and action. Stillness and service. And that Jesus loves us in all of it.

Love like Mary. Serve like Martha.

It’s more than a quote. It’s a prayer. A reminder that Jesus calls us into a rhythm of devotion and action.
To sit with Him and serve with Him.
To know that both are holy.

Thank you, Jesus.

To anyone in a season of healing, service, or survival—I see you. And I hope this collection reminds you that Jesus sees you, too.

With love,
